LACE, DENIM & PARIS
Today in Paris (ah!), I went on a fashion tour of the Palais Royal area, where Louis XIV lived as a child! If you ever make it to Paris, I highly suggest checking out this area as there are a lot of great boutiques around, as well as high end stores like Christian Louboutin, Stella McCartney, Acne Studios and Rick Owens. We even saw the "Association Générale du Commerce et de L'Industre des Tissus et des Matieres Textiles", where Karl Lagerfeld and his comrades meet to discuss whether a brand meets the qualifications to be haute couture. How amazing! But the best part, in my opinion, is the amazing vintage shops in the area! They had incredible pieces, even a Dior dress designed by Yves Saint Laurent in 1959. 1959!!!! I will definitely be going back to see what I can score.
But one thing I wanted to share is something our tour guide, Brigitte, said to us about French style. She mentioned that French women have a certain "je ne sais quoi" about them, that comes from effortless style, minimal makeup and comfort/class over complicated looks. One example she gave us is if you ever see a little detail of red on a French person - perhaps an earring - there's a good chance you'll see red somewhere else in their outfit, such as their socks. They are simplistic and coordinated. But they do love their striped shirts and monochromatic black outfits!
Now I may not have mastered quintessential French style yet, but I'm happy to be discovering new items to add to my wardrobe every day! This piece might be a new favorite in my closet. This gorgeous bodysuit is so easily dressed up or down, it's perfect. I love that lace is making a comeback and I've been living for camis and bodysuits that look almost like lingerie. Since this bodysuit is quite sexy, I toned with down with denim and I love the contrast it gives! I styled it two ways, for day and night so you can see how it pairs with denim shorts and incredibly distressed boyfriend jeans that I thrifted, along with the denim jacket. And of course, my favorite sunnies and hoop earrings! My bag is vintage Coach and the gorgeous drop necklace is from my friend's Etsy store, Tica Beads. I wore this look out in New York and it fit in very well there, but I brought this bodysuit to Paris and I'm excited how I can style it here. Hopefully by the end of this month I'll have mastered the "je ne sais quoi" look. Bisous!
