Outside The Concrete Jungle
As much as I love Manhattan, it can be nice to get away from the hustle and bustle once in a while. It is especially nice when the destination includes a beach! I was lucky enough to spend Friday and Saturday with my cherished friend, Katie, at her home in Long Island.
I started my weekend by rushing through Penn Station, trying to get past the crowds from a Rangers game in order to buy my ticket. I missed two trains just standing in line, but eventually I made it out alive. Arriving on the Island, I was immediately relaxed by the lack of noise and abundance of green grass and fresh air. When you stay in the city for too long, you can often forget what the outside world is like and it felt lovely to relax let go a little bit. The sun began to set as we grabbed dinner at Johnny Rockets and later stayed up drinking tea and chatting about our mutual love for Europe.
Saturday began at 9 with yummy vegetable omelettes and the most delicious coconut cream iced coffee from Babylon Bean, a coffee shop Katie frequents often. I highly recommend it if you're in the area! We then hopped on her family's boat and ventured to Fire Island, where we spent a few hours in the sand, soaking up some much needed sunshine.
It was a short weekend trip but I am so thankful I was able to escape the city and catch up with one of my best friends. I hope this summer holds many more trips like these! I need to remember to escape from my crazy life once in a while and enjoy the company of loved ones. I hope you do the same! xx Sarah
